Athletic Therapy

What is Athletic Therapy?

Athletic Therapy is a health care profession that specializes in the prevention, recognition, immediate care, management, and rehabilitation of a variety of musculoskeletal injuries. Athletic Therapy is not just exclusive to athletes.  Rather, it is a profession ideal for helping people maintain their activities, of daily living, or their active lifestyle, or of course, their athletic performance.

What is an Athletic Therapist?

An athletic therapist is a certified healthcare professional traditionally known for their quick-thinking on-field emergency care. But they are also experts in the assessment and treatment of acute or chronic musculoskeletal injuries or conditions.  An athletic therapist uses a combination of manual therapy, therapeutic exercise, and sport-specific training to reduce pain and improve performance, while helping to prevent injuries.

How Will Athletic Therapy Help Me?

Are you looking to return to sport or to the activities you enjoy, but are hindered by pain or injuries? Athletic Therapists treat a wide range of clientele from children right through to seniors. They focus their rehabilitation programs on patients’ needs using an evidence-based practice combining soft tissue and joint mobilization, therapeutic modalities, rehabilitative exercises, and bracing or taping to promote optimal healing.  If necessary, athletic therapists will analyze the gestures and movements relating to the specific sport or activity and will recommend task-specific strengthening, balance, or functional exercises.
