Understanding Back Pain
Back pain can be categorized into two main types:
- Acute: Acute back pain typically occurs suddenly and lasts for a short period, and it is typically caused by a sudden injury. For example, you may strain your back muscles when lifting something too heavy for you.
- Chronic: Chronic back pain, on the other hand, is a bit more complex. It is defined as any back pain that persists for three months or longer and often has multifactorial causes, such as poor posture combined with a sedentary lifestyle. In some cases, underlying medical issues (like spinal osteoarthritis) can also cause long-term back pain.

Managing Back Pain: A Case Study
This patient is a construction worker in his 40s who has been living with chronic back pain for years. The constant discomfort made it difficult for him to keep up with the physical demands of his job, enjoy his hobbies, and spend quality time with his family. How we helped him:
A Comprehensive Evaluation
We started by looking beyond symptoms to uncover the root causes of pain. We took a health history and performed some simple movement screens. This helped us identify several key factors contributing to his back pain, including tissue imbalances, contributing postures, and reduced strength.
Pain Relief Through Hands-On Care
Next, we focused on pain management, using a blend of targeted manual adjustments, mobilizations, soft tissue release, and movement-based strategies to help restore natural movement patterns, ease discomfort, and promote resilience. To complement this care, our massage therapist provided soft tissue release and myofascial techniques to ease muscle tension and promote circulation.
Personalized Exercise & Movement Retraining
Our physiotherapy and athletic team designed a customized exercise program to correct muscular imbalances and strengthen spinal support muscles. The patient was also coached on proper movement patterns to prevent re-injury.
Enhanced Body Mechanics
We taught the patient safe lifting strategies, posture awareness, and efficient movement techniques he could use both on the job site and at home. And because we recognized the physical demands of his work, our team provided ergonomic recommendations to reduce strain, such as optimizing lifting techniques and modifying his workspace setup.
What Were The Results?
With consistent care from our integrated physiotherapy, chiropractic, and massage therapy team and dedication to a home exercise program, the patient experienced a significant reduction in back pain. Over time, he regained his strength, mobility, and function, allowing him to keep working, return to his hobbies, and fully enjoy life with his family.

Recipe of the Month: Hot Dog Mummies

Ingredients:
- 8 hot dogs
- 1 (8 ounce) package refrigerated crescent rolls
- 1 teaspoon yellow mustard, or as needed (Optional)
Instructions:
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
- Place hot dogs in a saucepan and cover with water; bring to a boil. Reduce heat to medium-low and simmer until warmed through, about 5 minutes. Drain.
- Roll crescent dough onto a work surface; tear into 8 pieces. Roll 1 piece dough around each hot dog, creating the look of a mummy. Place dots of mustard on the top of each for the eyes, nose, and mouth. Arrange hot dogs on a baking sheet.
- Bake in the preheated oven until crescent dough is golden brown and flaky, about 10 minutes.
