Improve Your Spine Health to Avoid Back Pain

Do you suffer from back pain? It can range in severity from minor aches to sharp stabbing pains. When you wake up in the morning, sit or stand for more than 15 minutes, or walk long distances, you may notice that your pain worsens.
Low-back pain is one of the most common and most expensive musculoskeletal problems in the world. According to studies, approximately 85% of the population will experience low-back pain at some point in their lifetime. Fortunately, your back pain can be resolved, or perhaps avoided altogether, by working with a chiropractor at Leaps and Bounds Performance Rehabilitation to improve your spinal health.
Call Leaps and Bounds Performance Rehabilitation today to learn more about how the health of your spine is influencing your back pain. Our team is happy to teach you about the benefits of chiropractic care for managing back pain!
Why is spine health important?
You may be wondering, “How can I tell if my spine is healthy?”
When we think of health, we typically focus on nutrition, exercise, and heart health – but spine health is also vital for your overall well-being and normal daily functioning. Your spine does a lot for your body – it protects your spinal cord and vital organs, it connects different parts of your skeleton together, and it gives your body stability, while also allowing it to move freely. Almost every function in your body is directly connected to the health of your spine!
If you live with back pain, you know how limiting it can be. To make sure your spine is at its optimum health, you must achieve the following:
- Posture – there’s no “good” or “bad” posture. Our recommendation is to avoid straying away from your natural spinal curvature for long periods of time.
- Strong muscles – the definition of “core” remains up for debate. Our general recommendation is a well-balanced, moderity intensity program focusing on your major muscle groups, performed at least twice per week.
- Full (maximum) mobility throughout the spine in all directions (i.e., bending forward and backward, rotating right and left, and side bending right and left). We often see movement restricted in a particular direction, which becomes a source of pain for a person.
- Walking or other moderate to vigorous aerobic activity at least 150 minutes per week, broken up into bouts of at least 10 minutes or more.
- Limiting sedentary time to 8 hours or less.
- A well-balanced and wholesome time.
- Good quality sleep (7-9 hours) with consistent bed and wake-up times.

How chiropractic care can help improve your spine health
Your spine is a complicated structure of vertebrae, discs, joints, ligaments, tendons, muscles, and nerves. Therefore, it takes a delicate balance to ensure it is at its peak level of health and function. Of course, much like anything else, taking care of your spine health requires your participation.
Chiropractors are healthcare professionals who specialize in diagnosing and treating spinal disorders and neuromusculoskeletal disorders. Chiropractic care involves a multifaceted approach, including spinal mobilization and/or manipulation therapy, self-management advice, and strengthening exercises to effectively address acute and chronic back pain. The best practice is a comprehensive program where you do everything you can to ensure the health and function of your spine. A chiropractor makes recommendations to make movements and positions more efficient, as well as exercises to make your body, stronger and more robust to take on those things you do on a day-to-day basis.
