5 reasons you should consider us for hip and knee pain
1. Move with ease and without pain
Many of the impairments you and your practitioner work to correct—including weakness, limited range of motion, increased tone, and other imbalances related to sustained postures or positions—may have been caused or worsened by things you’re unknowingly doing. This includes sitting or standing too much, using inefficient body mechanics, and having a poor ergonomic set-up at work. One of our physiotherapist or chiropractic practitioners can educate you about ways to move in more energy efficient and safe ways to enhance the overall effects of your care and reduce the risk of re-injury.
2. Improve the health and fitness of your joints
When you see one of our practitioners for hip or knee pain, he or she may use soft tissue or joint mobilizations or manipulations to minimize the pain, as well as therapeutic exercises to promote circulation to the joints and help promote healing. When complemented with services like massage therapy, you’ll get both physical and mental relief.
3. Participate in treatment methods that are safe, effective, and non-invasive
You don’t have to rely on over-the-counter or prescription painkillers to ease those achy, stiff, swollen joints! We’ll make sure we have a custom plan just for you that will ease your pain, reduce your muscle spasms, increase your circulation, and promote healing. Your therapist may even use acupuncture or electrical stimulation, in cases where your joints are particularly angry.
4. Enhance your range of motion and improve your joint strength
Increasing the strength and mobility of your muscles and connective tissues around your joints will help your joints feel better and move better. This will help you progressively improve your tolerance to physical activity, which is essential for simple daily function, work, and leisure.
5. Reclaim your life!
According to the Arthritis Society of Canada, exercise is one of the best ways to manage hip and knee aches caused by osteoarthritis. By implementing some or all of the above interventions in a customized treatment plan, a physiotherapist can help you get back to regular exercise in a way that is safe and effective for you, based on your current abilities, goals, and needs.
What’s causing my hip and knee pains?
Pain felt in the hips or knees may originate in the joint itself, or it may also be a result of an underlying condition in another part of the body. For example, your lower back, hips, knees, and ankles are part of the same kinetic chain, meaning they make up a combination of weight-bearing joints that must function together in harmony in order for your body to function properly. Therefore, a problem with one of these joints may transmit abnormal forces to another. If one part of the kinetic chain is out of balance, stress or strain may be placed on another.
You may have also been diagnosed with:
- Patellofemoral pain syndrome (an instability of the kneecap, also called runner’s knee)
- Bursitis (an inflammation of the friction-reducing sacs surround the joints)
- Osteoarthritis (a painful inflammatory condition involving deteriorated joint cartilage)
- A traumatic injury like an ACL or other major ligament tear
Our practitioners can help you sort through this and make most of them less scary than what they really are.
